Chris Lewis started his consultancy career in Northland (1985) after completing a Agricultural Science degree at Massey University.
Chris was an MAF / Agriculture New Zealand consulting officer from 1986 – 1994. Working in Warworth, Rotorua, Waipukurau and Wairarapa. In 1994 Chris left the Ministry of Agriculture to become a partner of Baker & Associates Ltd now BakerAg.
There was a break during the above when Chris did his OE. Based in London and travelling western and eastern block Europe. Chris met his wife Rachael while working in London. They now live on the outskirts of Masterton with their two children.
BakerAg provides consultancy, valuation, supervision and human resource services to the lower North Island, Canterbury and Southland. It has fourteen full time people in the business with offices in Masterton and Dannevirke.
Chris has spent time in sheep & beef, but now specialises in dairy as a registered farm management consultant. With a strong interest in farm modelling systems he utilises custom built spreadsheet feed planning tools, UDDER and now Farmax software. He also works very closely with a number of large-scale dairy farming businesses in the financial planning and business building area.
Outside of his traditional consultancy practise Chris and family members have developed a small software business around the Pasture Coach pasture monitoring tool. Currently utilised on over 2000 dairy farms.
Chris has had various national roles including involvement in the National Reproductive Advisory Group (NRAG) which was a precursor to establishment of the Dairy Incalf program. Chris is fully accredited to deliver DairyBase. He is also a past chairman of the Wellington Wairarapa branch of the New Zealand Institute of Primary Industry Management.
