Consultant - People Services



BakerAg is a Wairarapa and Manawatu-based business, providing Agribusiness Consultancy and Valuation Services. We are looking for a suitably qualified consultant to run our People Services business.

The role includes:

  • full-cycle recruitment, from identifying the skills, experience and “fit” needed in the role for which the recruitment is needed, to interviewing and evaluating candidates for our clients.
  • providing advice to our clients on one-off and ongoing HR matters including remuneration and benefits evaluations for staff, setting and evaluating performance objectives for individuals and teams and reviewing training and development programmes to assist our clients grow the skills and experience of their staff.
  • building a strong reputation amongst our clients that shows that BakerAg can recruit and help retain the most qualified employees for our clients.

The person we are looking for needs to:

  • have the skills to find out what the farmer wants from their employee and then find the ideal candidate for the job. To do this they will be a great judge of people and be able to work with our clients to build trust and demonstrate their skills and experience in recruitment. They will also have skills in helping our client’s employees establish goals and helping people to grow in their roles on farm.
  • have proven work experience as an HR Recruiter or similar role, including:
  • designing and updating job descriptions.
  • have experience in sourcing candidates online via social media and job sites, and via print media, crafting job ads and emails to attract candidates, screening incoming resumes and application forms, and conducting background checks.
  • be confident with various job interview formats, including via phone, video and in-person and group interviews.
  • Provide shortlists of qualified candidates to clients, send job offers and answer queries about compensation and benefits.
  • Monitor key HR metrics, including time-to-fill, time-to-hire and source of hire.
  • Promote BakerAg’s People Services to potential and actual clients and groups.
  • Advise clients on what needs to happen for the effective introduction of a new employee.
  • Advise on setting and evaluating performance of employees.
  • Advise clients on their employment obligations including work hours, accommodation and other aspects of employment.
  • have a working knowledge of employment law.
  • have their own vehicle (we will reimburse for travel).

A computer, mobile phone and related office equipment will be supplied.


Ideally based in our Feilding office, the right person for this position will have the following key competencies for the role:

  • Have a qualification in Human Resources Management, Organisational Psychology or relevant field.
  • Be outgoing, enthusiastic, flexible, and committed to meeting our customers needs.
  • Be able to multi-task, work to deadlines and have great verbal and written communication skills and demonstrate sound and professional judgement.
  • Be a great team player but with the initiative and drive to work on their own.
  • A background in farming, understanding our client needs by having “been there and done that” on farm would be an advantage.
